WORDS OF REMEMBRANCE AND MEMORIAL – JUNE 26, 2026
FROM THE MEMBERS OF WEEKLY TRIZ MEETINGS
ORGANIZED AND HOSTED BY DAVID BONNER
“During his tenure at Rohm-Haas, David became enamored with TRIZ and had many of the company’s scientists and engineers undergo training in TRIZ. Later, he joined Ideation International (2004-2005) where he became a key figure in establishing an Ideation spin-off, Intellectual Property Business International (IPBI), and served as its president. He rejoined Ideation International in August 2019 following the passing of the company’s co-founder and long-time president, Zion Bar-El. In December 2019, David stepped up as the president of Ideation International.
During this difficult time, David personally provided substantial financial support to keep Ideation afloat, including funding for software development, which was vital to the survival of Ideation’s core products. David was the glue that kept the Ideation and TRIZ community connected. Through his efforts, an important cultural legacy from another country, dating back over 80 years, was kept alive here in the United States.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Friday morning meetings infused with David’s intellectual depth and humility. We admired his vast knowledge of science, history, and the military. Despite his high-level education and extensive expertise, he was remembered as a very humble person who was open to other perspectives. He had the mark of a true scientist – the ability to explain highly complex concepts succinctly and clearly.
Members noted David’s absolute professionalism from the first day they met him. Beyond being a professional colleague, he also became a beloved close friend to many in the group, offering constant encouragement and fostering a genuine sense of connection. His undying commitment to making a difference in health care often led to conversations about innovations in the industry. For one member whose wife has Type 1 diabetes, David made a significant contribution by having personal conversations about how he was trying to find a cure for that chronic condition.
The meetings that David hosted were renowned among our members for being incredibly thought-provoking and eclectic. They explored a wide variety of topics, taking participants’ minds to places they wouldn’t normally go during their regular work weeks. One of our members shared, ‘These meetings are the most thought-provoking things I do all week.’ Another member shared, ‘These meetings were also about trying to solve world problems.’
We will profoundly miss David for his leadership, his brilliant mind, his absolute professionalism, and his warm, encouraging friendship, which was also marked by humor and laughter.
We hold him dearly in our hearts and minds and offer our condolences to his family. May your cherished memories and the solace from everyone he touched bring you peace of mind and heart.”
